Amy Carter Awarded 2015 McLane Leadership Award

By December 18, 2015 No Comments

The Leadership Lowndes Board of Trustees honored Georgia Representative Amy Carter with the 2015 McLane Leadership Award at the Leadership Lowndes Class Graduation, which was held Nov. 19 at the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts.

In 2012, Leadership Lowndes started a new tradition of awarding a local individual or business with the McLane Leadership Award.  Named after prominent community leader and Lowndes County Superior Court Judge H. Arthur “Mac” McLane, the award identifies the recipient as one who demonstrates exceptional support of the Leadership Lowndes organization and its mission.

Rep. Carter is a Class of 1997 graduate of Leadership Lowndes, where she was elected by her fellow class members as the 1997 class president and the recipient of the Tess Price Cox award.  The Tess Price Cox award, an award given in recognition of the first president and founding member of Leadership Lowndes, is given each year to a graduate who exemplifies extraordinary spirit, enthusiasm and support of the Leadership Lowndes program.

Since 1997, Rep. Carter has demonstrated steadfast enthusiasm and support of Leadership Lowndes–particularly the Lowndes Youth Leadership League–through her roles of educator and state representative.  She is a champion for the Valdosta-Lowndes County area and has been a solid and consistent contributor of time and resources to the Leadership Lowndes, the Leadership Lowndes Youth League, and any other endeavor that is beneficial to our community and the South Georgia region.

Rep. Carter is in large part responsible for the ultimate success of Legislative Day each year, a program day which takes both the Leadership Lowndes and the Lowndes Youth Leadership League classes to the state capital to meet face-to-face with state legislators and to learn about important state issues.  As an educator, Rep. Carter is a mentor for youth in our community.  Over the years, she has nominated countless youth leaders for the Lowndes Youth Leadership League, which has proven to be a tool for success in the lives of these student leaders.
