The Lowndes Youth Leadership League welcomed its 15th class of young community leaders at a reception held in their honor on January 15th at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College.
The 2013 Lowndes Youth Leadership League is comprised of Sophomores and Juniors from all six high schools in Lowndes County. This year’s class has been tasked to “Lead Now: Does your community lead you or can you lead your community?” The students will embark on a crash course on Leadership through the community and will build their leadership skills throughout the process. The student leaders will participate in a four-month program that will include a variety of team building exercises designed to develop relationships, build trust and solve problems; visits to area agencies to learn about public safety and court systems, local government, social services, and exposure to other important community components; and participation in a mandatory community service group project. The year will kick off with an overnight retreat to be held later this month at Camp Weed in Live Oak, Florida.
