The Lowndes Youth Leadership League graduated its 15th class of young community leaders at a ceremony held in their honor on April 23rd at Valdosta State University.
The 2013 Lowndes Youth Leadership League is comprised of Sophomores and Juniors from all six high schools in Lowndes County. According to LYLL Coordinator Brittney Foster-Hull, “The goal of the program is to strengthen each student’s leadership ability and have fun learning! I know we accomplished these goals with this year’s class. I could not be more proud of this group.”
Claire Kirkpatrick (Valdosta High School) was voted this year’s Class President. Claire commented, “Having been voted Class President of the Lowndes Youth Leadership Class of 2013 is an absolute honor. This program taught me so many valuable leadership skills and life lessons that I will carry with me throughout the future. Being a part of the Lowndes Youth Leadership League this year was an incredible experience.”
Anna Turner (Valwood School) was the recipient of the Barnabas Award: “Participating in the Lowndes Youth Leadership League program has been a great and beneficial experience for me this year. This program has expanded my understanding and appreciation for my community, especially the people that live here. It has definitely helped me develop stronger, meaningful social skills by introducing me to new people that will hopefully be life long friends. This year I was thrilled to be the winner of the Barnabas award because it showed me that my excitement and enthusiasm about the program was visible and encouraging to others involved. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to participate in the Lowndes Youth Leadership League program.
